CHEETAH

Did you know that the cheetah is the fastest land animal! The cheetah can at the speed of 70 miles per hour! The cheetah cannot run full speed for long distances because it will overheat. Cheetah mothers teach their offspring how to hunt small antelopes.  Cheetah's usually hunt during the daylight. Cheetah don't roar, but they purr, hiss and and growl. They also make sounds that let them make contact it sounds like a birdlike chirping. Once a cheetah makes it's kill it looks for other animals that might steal their catch. The animals that might steal the cheetah's catch is the hyena, vultures, and jackals. The cheetah's food is usually zebra's, antelopes, and gazelles. The cheetah often relies on speed to catch it's prey but, it also relies on surprise. It will hide in the tall grass and wait for the right time to strike. Once it is in the chase the cheetah will try to pounce on it, then, it will bite it's prey on the neck. The cheetah's lifespan is 10 to 20 years of age. A male does not accompany the female for a while after mating. Their are at least 2 to 4 cubs born. Their eyes don't open for a while and they are helpless. When the mother is hunting she leaves them hidden in the tall grass or in a small hole away from predators. This is a wonderful animal but, it has become extinct in many areas! And in some area's cheetah cubs die before 3 months.
