Balaenoptera musculus
The Blue Whale is another member of Antarctica's wildlife. With lengths up to 100 ft.(30m.) and weighs up to 150 tons(136 metric tons) the blue whale is the largest animal ever on earth! The blue whale is found in the open icy waters of Antarctica and many other places on the earth. Their diet consists exclusively of krill. During winter seasons, the blue whale migrates to a more tropic or sub-tropic region to breed and calve.
Endangered Status
The Blue Whale is currently one of the world's most endangered whales. In the mid-1900's they were almost completely wiped out. The estimated population was 1,000. Today the population is slowly rising, and more and more blue whales are being born. But they still need our help.
