Arctocephalus gazella
The Antarctic fur seal is another of the many animals of Antarctica. It's height is 6-7 feet. It can weigh up to 250 pounds but pups weigh 6-15 pounds. It's diet consists of mainly krill, squid, and small fish. They live on the coastal beaches of Antarctica.
Endangered History
In the early 1800's the Antarctic fur seal became endangered because of hunters. They used them for making women's coats and by the 1900's seeing an Antarctic fur seal was extremely rare. Since then, the population has grown. The current population is 4 million, and rising everyday. But the fur seal still faces threats from humans. The threats include habitat loss, over fishing, oil spills, and entanglement in fishing nets.
