Titanic

The Titanic set sail for its first maiden voyage on April 10th, 1912.  She was the largest and most luxurious ship at the time.  She was one of the fastest ships too.  Her top speed was 20.5 knots.  She set sail beautifully from the 10th of April until the night of April 14th.  On the night of April 14th, the leader of White Star Line, Bruce Ismay, told Captain E. J.  Smith to speed up the ship. Captain E. J.  Smith listened to him and sped up the ship leading them straight into a huge iceberg. Captain Smith yelled out, "Lower the lifeboats, lower the lifeboats!''  The men on the bridge started to lower the lifeboats. Only the women and children were allowed to go on the lifeboats. Then the empty spaces in the lifeboats were left to the men. Many families were separated this way. When the lifeboats were lowered, the 3rd class people were locked down in their rooms. They let the 1st and 2nd class passengers ono the lifeboats ahead of them.  The 1st class was the rich people. They had nicer rooms and better room service. The 2nd class people were your average people, not rich but not poor. And the 3rd class was the poorest of all classes and had horrible rooms. As the lifeboats were lowered, Bruce Ismay, being a coward, went into a lifeboat. He was supposed to go down with the ship, but Bruce wanted to live.

As the ship was going down, the Titanic sent her distress rockets up in the air. This indicated that the ship was in danger and they needed help. Only a couple miles away, the Californian saw the rockets. The crew thought that since the ship is supposedly unsinkable,  the rockets were for a party. But obviously the captain was wrong and the poor Titanic was trapped in doom. But the Carpathia attempted to be the hero.  Sadly it couldn't come to the rescue in time. It came hours too late. But it did find the people on the lifeboats and took them onto their ship. And from the kindness of the people aboard the Carpathia, they let the people from the Titanic in their rooms and cut their town trip short.

When the people from the Titanic came into the rooms on the Carpathia, they noticed who did and didn't survive this journey. Many families were separated and just torn apart. Children around the age of  7 and 8 were missing their dads. They returned to their port and went back to their homes. Bruce Ismay went back to his home as well and was hated for his actions. People called him a big "coward." Not too long after, he committed suicide because he could not take being ignored and hated.

This tragedy was one of the biggest in history. Also, many laws were created so that nowadays a ship must have enough lifeboats to support every person. Don't get scared because a tragedy will never happen. Technology is much more advanced and even if the ship crashes, you will always have enough lifeboats to support you and your family. I encourage you and your family to go on a nice cruise every once in awhile.
