Lusitania

The Lusitania was a beautiful ship built by John Brown & Co. It was the biggest ship in the world and weighed more than 30,000 tons. It weighed the most of any ship at the time. It was also the first British four-stacker. She was a graceful ship and set sail in 1906.

One of the Lusitania's journeys was not a good one. World War 1 began and the Lusitania arrived home safely. But when they were heading east to Kinsale they were torpedoed by U-20. Then they were hit yet again, but the cause was unknown. The Lusitania was hit hard both times and sunk in 18 minutes. Only 761 people were rescued and 1198 died. This incident was big news and frightened many citizens.
