Because of Winn-Dixie is a Newberry Honor Book about a 10 year old girl, India Opal Buloni, moving to Naomi, Florida with her father. Opal's mother left when she was three years old. Her father, the preacher, doesn't talk about Opal's mother at all. Opal is lonely, and can't tell anyone about her feelings to anyone until she took a trip to supermarket called Winn-Dixie one day. A stray dog was roaming the supermarket and causing commotion. Opal decides to take him home, and names him Winn-Dixie, after the supermarket where she met her new best friend.
The Tale of Despereaux is a tale of a small mouse with a big love of stories, a princess, and music. It is the tale of a mouse as well as a rat named Roscuro. Roscuro lives in the darkness but finds another world, a world of light. Accompanied by Despereaux the mouse and Roscuro the rat is Miggery Sow. Trying to begin a new life without his mother, who recently died from cancer, Rob and his father move to Lister, Florida.
