The miners' dirty work clothes were hung from hooks in the ceiling and raised up to dry. The dirt dried, fell off, and the clothes were worn again.

Blasting equipment.

The ore comes down the chute and dumps in the ore car. Then it's taken out of the mine.

A model of an engineer stands by drills. Engineers decided the best way to mine the ore.

Holes were drilled into the rock and then a loud horn was blown to warn miners that there would be an explosion.

Some portable lights that were used by miners.

Underground mining machinery.

The man cage, or elevator, was used to take miners from one level [or floor] to another.

This was the key to the bells that were rung when the man cage went to a different level of the mine.

This dragging machine was used to pull or move the ore after it was broken into chunks.

This is a model of a mine office.

We saw a few stones that had fossils in them.

This stone had dinosaur tracks in it!

This is a sculpture of a miner with a canary on his finger. Canaries were used to warn miners if there were high levels of gas in the mine.
