The Bird Flu IS Spreading!

The Bird Flu IS Spreading -  According to Reuter's news service, the bird flu has been found in 18 new countries.  As reported in the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, the bird flu had moved to the continent of Africa.  It was discovered in Nigeria on a farm in Jaji.  In an effort to control the spread of the flu, the Prime Minister of Africa ordered 46,000 birds to be killed.  Some countries, however, are not killing the birds.  In France, where the poultry industry raises 7 billion dollars a year, they are vaccinating the birds to try to control the flu.  Most scientists believe that this is not effective, and that it may cause the virus to mutate (which we don't want!).  Most countries will not accept poultry from France because of its vaccination program.

According to an article published by Chanel 2 in Houston, a subtype of the bird flu appeared in Houston last year.  Click HERE to see more about this story and to view a video that describes how Texas is handling the problem.
