5. Chances to survive
Conditional survivor functions by non-small cell lung cancer.
To find out what the conditional survivor functions are there will be a median surviving used. This means that the investigators measure how many percent of the patient die in a time after the treatment.
They use a 5 years surviving too. This means how many people survived within 5 years after the treatment.
If lung cancer isn't treated than the median is about 6 months.
After a operation is the 5 years surviving about 40%, this depends on the length of the tumor.
The 5 years surviving after only a radiation is 5-10%, this depends on the length of the tumor and the disseminations.
The 5 years surviving after only chemotherapy is smaller than 1%
Conditional survivor functions by small cell lung cancer.
How big the chance is to survive depends on how big the cancer is: how it is in general with the patient; how many lactic acid, alkaline phosphates, protein and salt is in the blood and how the body of the patient reacts on the treatment.
The surviving chance after 3 years by limited cancer with chemotherapy and radiation is above 20%. The surviving chance with only chemotherapy after 3 year is only 9%.
The surviving chance by extensive cancer is much worse. The 5 years surviving chance is 1,6% and the average surviving time is about 8-9 months.
