Paula is the colleague of Ashley's mother. Ashley's mother is a nurse. Ashley is a member of the 'Children Press Office' in Almere. This is organised by Tineke, the coach of this team. Renate has interviewed Paula.

Paula has been working in the 'Antoni van Leeuwen Hospital'. She worked at the department in the hospital which is specialised in treating people with cancer: oncology. She worked at the recovery room. People who had a (heavy) operation, or chemotherapy came to this place. Paula and her colleague took care of that people.

“I liked the job. It gives me a good feeling to take care of people who are in a difficult position. It gave me the possibility to talk a lot with people and I loved to listen to them. Of course, some stories are shocking and sometimes it hasn't got a happy ending, but the most important thing is that many patients get better. "

"You get a really good relationship with some people because they come back after every chemo. I visited the patients from the department every morning at about 8 o'clock and every night to control them. I was there for them if they needed me, as a nurse. "

"Some people liked it that I visited them because they don't have visitors all the time. And for them it is nice that someone comes to see them and ask how he/she is doing. "

"The thing which I found difficult of this job, was that some people are really ill, and that it were difficult conversations which I had with the family. At the end I'm the person who just works in the hospital. "
