Julian ThomasJulian Thomas is a pianist and songwriter from Sittard, a city in the south of the Netherlands. In 2006 he is 30 years old, and his real name is Sjefke Backbier.Julian Thomas is physical handicapped. He was born with only one hand. Still he plays the piano real good and he gets more and more well known in the Netherlands.  Julian has had a very difficult youth. He was not accepted by his parents and lived by his aunt and in foster homes for several years. When he was 20 he got into a deep crises, but after a while he got over it. Especially when he found out that he could play the piano using the ‘end’ of his arm he found a goal in his life. He does play the piano ‘doubled handed’ although he does not have any fingers at his left arm. He uses his right hand more than other piano players. But the left part does play a big role in his compositions! His songs are very passionate and you can hear his struggle and pain in the songs and music.
