This Site

As you probably already have noticed, this is a site about our senses.
We were inspired to choose this subject because the nephew of Sonny (Remco of 15 years old) is deaf. When he was a little baby he suffered from meningitis and that affected his hearing nerves. We know that Remco goes to a special school for the deaf, but on family birthdays he is always around. And we see that he is just a normal boy who wants to do things like any other boy of his age. He likes to watch videos; play at the computer, etc. And because he lives in a town that is about 200 km away from his parent's home, he loves to chat at MSN.

Sonny also noticed that people sometimes avoid Remco because they are ‘afraid' of him, because he seems to be different. Well, he is not. And we hope that you understand that it hurts him when you do not treat him like anyone else.

But we too had our prejudices. We thought that blind people were not able to go ice skating. Or that people who were both blind and deaf were not able to communicate. So when making this website we found out that they can have a normal life too, and can communicate in different ways. And have a lot of fun together!
Laurette is the ice skater in this team so she was the one who interviewed blind or visual handicapped teenagers about their experience at the ice skating rink.

We hope that you learn as much as we did about this subject. And we hope that you enjoyed doing the fun games at this site, because we certainly had fun searching them on the internet.
Some of the games we have made ourselves! And of course we were inspired by the senses.
Femke was a good Site Seeing Searcher because she was able to find the most surprising games on the net, which would fit to our site.

Did you see the pictures of all of our senses at the top of each page?
These pictures were made by Lotje, one of our team members. She rearranged them in Photoshop. Do you recognise the eyes, ears, mouth, etc of each of our team members?

The title of this site: ‘Site Seeing', can be interpreted in different ways.
It sounds like ‘Sight Seeing', which of course means a fun, educating tour along things that interests you. But it also means Seeing our Site. And we hope it will be an Eye Opener to you, as it was to us.

At the bottom of every page you can read quotes. They are all said or written down by Hellen Keller. She inspired us a lot, because she was both deaf and blind and still managed to get a University degree. Three members of our team probably will never reach University because we are not such good learners. But we are motivated in what we doing right now and have a goal in our live. Just as Hellen Keller did.

"If I, deaf, blind, find life rich and intresting, how much more can you gain by the use of your five senses!"
