There are many types of classical Indian dance. Here are four, Bharata Natyam, Manipuri, Kathak, and Katakali. The most difficult is Bharata Natyam, although it’s popular. The Bharata Natyam dancers are usually women, who always have to bend their knees. These dancers wear elaborate clothes and jewelry. They also have intricate footwork and half seated posture. Manipuri comes from northeast India. The dancers wear conical caps and hoop skirts. Kathak is a dance form that came from the north part of India. That has quick footwork and pirouettes. Katakali is like mime dancing. The dancers wear huge headdresses and they paint their faces heavily. |
