Surya was born on December 15, 1973 in Nice, France. She now lives in Las Vegas and has been touring with Champions On Ice since 1993. Her name is pronounced, “Sur-ee-yah.” She started skating when she was 18 months old. When she was young, she skated every day and she competed in gymnastics for 14 years. She has successfully blended her two sports and is famous for her back flip on the ice. She is 5’0” tall and has black hair and black eyes. She is known for being very independent. When she fell on a jump in the 1998 Olympics, she realized that she would not get a medal so she did a back flip which got her disqualified. She had a great competitive career. Between 1989 and 1987, she placed 1st nine times in a row in the French National Championships. She won the Goodwill Games in 2000. She also came in 2nd at the World Ice Challenge in 2001. She placed 5th in the 1992 Olympics. She was also in the 1994 and 1998 Olympics competing for France. She has since become an American citizen and has been touring the country performing in shows for the past 13 years.

Irina Slutskaya was born on February 9, 1979 in Moscow, Soviet Union. Her name means, “Peace”, in Ancient Greek. She began skating when she was 4 years old. She is famous for her triple loop, her Biellmann spin, and her footwork. Her coach is Zhanna(Jana) Gromova. She has had the same coach for her whole career. That is rare in the ice skating world! Irina was not a healthy child. When she was 4, her mother had her skate outdoors on frozen fields because she thought the cold air would be good for her. She loved skating and became determined to be the best. She realized her dream and became the 1996 and 1997 European Champion. Irina is the first Russian or former Soviet woman to have won a major figure skating title...third at the 1996 Worlds. At the 1998 Olympics, she finished fifth. Irina became the first woman to do a triple lutz-triple loop combination. At the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City, Irina won the silver medal. Irina is now married to Sergei Mikheyev. She graduated from college with a degree in physical culture in 2000. She had two dogs and a lizard. |
