South Africa is doing pretty well even though they had to gain their freedom from England. They now have a republic. They also have two different kinds of presidents.
Mauritania is very poor. The land is more like a desert than anything else. Their president, Maaouya Ould Sid Ahmed Taya and his prime minister are trying to keep things under control.
Kenya just had a revolution. Before they couldn't’t do anything that the government didn't’t like. Now they have a republic with a good president and vice president.
Egypt has more tourism than most countries in Africa. It is pretty modern and does have a republic. They have many natural resources. They actually have a woman president now.
Libya is a socialist country. They can’t have any more money than anyone else no matter what kind of job they have. There is a lot of poverty there.
Algeria does have a president named Abdelaziz Bouteflica. They also don’t have a lot of money, but at least they can vote.
Sudan is ruled by a combination of a president and the military. The president is President Lieutenant General Umat Hassen Ahmad al-Bashier. The people don’t have the freedom of speech.
Nigeria votes for their president differently than we do in the United States. They vote for their leaders by popular vote instead of the amount of states. That is how President Olusegun Obasanjo was elected.
Ethiopia has a lot of problems with AIDS. Also, people cannot leave the country freely. Their president is Girma Wolegiorges.
Madagascar has many natural resources, especially wildlife. Madagascar is actually an island and is pretty big.
