Tornadoes Tornadoes are horrible swirling storms that cut through everything in its path. Tornadoes are caused by the combination of warm air from the Gulf of Mexico and cold air from Canada. They can last anywhere from a few seconds to more than an hour. If you are one of the lucky ones, then tornadoes won't come near you. There is a place, known as Tornado Alley, where tornados are more likely to occur. Where Is Tornado Alley? The following states are part of the Tornado Alley:
What Supplies Do You Need? You should have a little supply kit with emergency items that you may need during a tornado. Your supply kit should include the following: a flashlight, a portable battery operated radio, first aid kit, non-perishable food and water, can opener, sturdy shoes and extra batteries. Where Should You Go During A Tornado? First of all, draw or construct a plan of what you are going to do or where you are going to go if there is a tornado. If you are indoors, go to the lowest level of the building and get away from the windows. Get under a sturdy table of some kind and hold on to it. If there is only one floor in the building, go to a room with no windows or to the center of a big hallway. Then cover yourself with your arms to protect you from flying objects. If you happen to be in a car during a tornado, get out of the car and find shelter. If there is no shelter or you don’t have enough time, get in a ditch away from the car and lie down.
