Earthquake?
An earthquake is when there is a
trembling and shaking caused by movement of rocks beneath Earth's
surface.
What Is The
Cause?
When Earth's plates shift or
move. They cause the Earth to shake and form an earthquake. There
is a Greek myth that says that when Atlas shifts the Earth on his
shoulders that is what causes an earthquake.
How Do You Measure An
Earthquake?
A person who measures an
earthquake are called a seismologist. Scientists use an instrument
called a seismograph. A seismograph measures earthquakes by
seismic waves that are sent off during one.
What Damages Does One
Cause?
Earthquakes cause a bunch of
damage. It can tear down buildings, trees, and houses. They also
can flip cars, cause landslides, and cause fault lines to. After an
earthquake a little earthquake happens which is called aftershock.
Aftershock occurs about 3 weeks after an earthquake and causes
little damage. If the earthquake happens underwater, it can cause a
tsunami.
What Are Some Safety
Tips?
To prevent yourself from getting injured
during an earthquake, get under a table and hold the legs to keep
it from falling. If there is no table, find a corner away from
windows and other sharp objects. When you find a corner, duck your
head between your legs and put your hands over your neck. If you
are outside, find an open area to avoid cars, electrical poles,
trees, and falling buildings. Also sit down so that you want be
thrown down.
