Timeline of Computers

1642: Blaise Pascal makes a computer that was like a calculator. It could only add and subtract.

1883: Charles Babbage starts work on Analytical Engine

1941: Konrad Zues builds the first computer to use binary (digital information).

1945: John Mauchlu and Presper Eckert make the first electronic computer.

1947: The Transistor computer comes out.

1948: The Manchester University Mark I is invented.

1951: The Ferranti Mark I, a better version of the Manchester University Mark I comes out.

1951: John Presper Eckert & John W. Mauchly invented a computer called the UNIVAC Computer.

1954: John Backus and IBM invented the FORTRAN Computer Programming Language. It was the first computer that could check grammar.

1964: The first computers using silicon chips went on sale.

1975: The first small home computer, the Altair was on sale.

1975: Microsoft was founded in the USA by Bill Gates and Paul Allen.

1976: Apple Computer was founded in the USA by Steve Jobs and Steve Woznaik.

1976: Apple I is being built and goes on sale.

1977: Apple II is launched.

1977: The Commodore Pet is introduced.

1980: The Sharp PC 1211 is launched.

1980: Sharp MZ80K is introduced.

1980: Intertec Superbrain is launched.

1981: The Osborne Portable computer is launched.

1981: IBM introduces the IBM PC

1984: Apple introduces the apple Macintosh, a computer built to rival the IBM PC.

1984: Apple Macintosh Classic is introduced

1984: Hewlett-Packard HP 110 is launched

1985: Amstrad PCW 8256 is launched

1994: Apple and IBM launch Power Mac and Power PC.

1998: Microsoft launches the Windows 98 system.

1998: Apple IMAC is launched.

1999: Microsoft launches the Windows 2000 system.

2002: The blackberry has come.

2004: Apple IBOOK G4 is launched.
