The Disease

What kind of disease is it?

Bird flu is a type of influenza (flu). Avian influenza is scientifically known as H5N1. It is a microorganism that causes a flu like illness in birds, animals and humans. It is highly likely that it will lead to death. Many birds and humans have died from it and it is predicted that many more will. After catching the virus from infected birds, about 100 people have become ill, and of whom 60 people have died.

What is H5N1?

There are 3 types of influenza virus: A, B and C and these are further divided into ‘strains’- one of them is H5N1. When we start to talk about bird flu, we are referring to the most dangerous strain. The most dangerous strain is the type A virus, which is H5N1. It is also deadly to domestic birds. The first time the H5N1 virus was known to be found in humans was in 1997, Hong Kong but many scientists and historians say it has been around for hundreds of years.

What happens when you get the disease?

It might start with a cough and a fever that gets so bad it is like an asthma attack but worse no antibiotic can treat it. It might stop your lungs, brain, kidney and liver from working.

When you get Bird flu your white blood cells try to attack the bird flu. But the Bird flu tricks your white blood cells and your white blood cells attack your lungs and your heart.

How does it affect people?

When the bird flu attacks your lungs it attacks your heart lungs as well as your lungs, and it is very easy to die. Bird flu is actually similar to some of the human flu like fever and exhaustion. So protect against the risk of spreading among humans of spreading because it is a serious illness. Suffers must be isolated and treated in the hospital. If you get the flu injection then when you have Bird Flu then the virus won’t get mixed with Bird Flu. If you don’t have the Flu Injection then if you get Bird Flu it will get mixed with the flu will get mixed and will make a more deadly disease.
