History

Concorde was a joint development between the British and French governments to build a supersonic airliner.

1965: Building commenced on the first of two prototypes

1969: The French prototype Concorde 001 flew in March and the British prototype Concorde 002 in April

1970: Concorde flies at Mach 2 - twice the speed of sound

1976: First commercial flights - British Airways from London to Bahrain, Air France from Paris to Rio de Janeiro via Dakar

1977: November 22nd first flights from London and Paris to New York

1979: A British Airways Concorde flew from London to New York in 2 hours 59 minutes and 36 seconds

1983: A British Airways Concorde flew from New York to London in 2 hours and 56 minutes

1987:Concorde made it’s 2 nd trip around the world

1989:Concorde 13th year in service

1990:Concorde flew from Honolulu to Hong Kong in 6 hours and 30 minutes (normal time of 13 hours and 10 minutes)

1996:The inventor of the Concorde died at the age of 89

1998:Concorde 20 years in service

2001:A British Airways plane was stopped from flying, because of cracks in the wings

2003:One of the first Concorde took off from London, and flew around the UK and landed where she was born
