Everything has an upside and a downside. These are some pros (good things) and cons (bad things) about after school activities.

Pros Cons
Gives children a hobby Children are over-scheduled
Children get exercise Families may not get to have meals together
Children are safe at an activity (adult supervision) There aren't enough activities
Children can't do drugs or smoke or get in trouble Children will focus more on an activity
Children won't sit around all day watching TV Parents have to spend time driving their child to the activity
Kids avoid peers and pressure Children will have less free time
Children won't go out and commit crime Children won't have the time to get to go on trips
Child gets better attitude about learning Will not always lead to a career
Kids do better academically If they do not attend activity they are most likely to skip school and do drugs
Lowers risk of becoming depressed, using drugs, and low self esteem A child at age of 15 has spent more time watching T.V then sitting in a classroom.
Influences development ex. Socially, improve academically Parents may have to take extra time to drive child to activity.
Benefit children in many ways. Ex. They are expressions of personal accomplishments
Parents enjoy after school activities because they develop interest and hobbies to keep out of trouble.
