Introduction
Many celebrities around the world are doing all they can to relieve poverty. From U2's Bono to Microsoft's Bill Gates and former President Jimmy Carter, many celebrities are setting a very effective example. Due to their wide range of influence, and the number of people who look up to them, their work is helping to alleviate poverty. Not only do they help to spread the word, but celebrities usually have large sums of money which they are willing to donate to charities.

Examples of Celebrity Activism

- Bono (U2) - DATA (Debt AIDS Trade Africa):

Jimmy Carter helped create the non-governmental organization 'Habitat for Humanity.'

DATA spreads the word about poverty to teenagers and young adults, suggests they go to other places, and encourages them to donate money. Bono has also been active in the ONE Campaign, and its British forefather 'Make Poverty History,' which work to increase awareness of poverty and lobby governments to make poverty relief a bigger priority.
- Jimmy Carter (former US President)- Habitat for Humanity: 'Habitat' builds houses for the poor, as long as the new home owner puts in a certain amount of hours. Besides the required hours, the home is completely free to the new homeowner.
- Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft) - The Gates Foundation: The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation funds various humanitarian efforts around the world that are attempting to improve health, increase education and living conditions around the world. The Foundation is one of the biggest supporters of global health campaigns in the entire world.
