One of Pro Mujer Mexico's loans was used to start a successful chicken-selling business.

Pro Mujer Mexico (PMM), the Mexican branch of the microfinance institution Pro Mujer, which works in several Latin American countries, has over 10,000 borrowers in the Mexican state of Hidalgo and plans to expand to other Mexican states soon. Recently, it received support from a variety of institutions ranging from the Mexican government to the non-profit organization Unitus to commercial banks such as JP Morgan Chase and Citibank. This collaboration has helped it become one of the most successful microfinance institutions in Mexico, with thousands of successful loans.
A typical PMM borrower is Georgina Gutierrez. Though she had dropped out of school, Gutierrez wanted her seven-year-old daughter to have the education she never received. Her dream was realized in 2005, when she received a loan from PMM to buy chickens. After selling them for a profit, she borrowed again and expanded her chicken-selling business. With her money, she can pay her daughter’s school fees, something she could not have done without the help of PMM.
