The Surgeon General has come of with a plan to help people of the future become less obese and overweight. The first thing is to communicate to the people of the U.S.A and inform them about obesity and how to prevent it. This part calls for the change of perception of overweight and obese individuals. The Surgeon General also wants to provide health care information in schools.

The second part of the plan is to take action. The Surgeon General wants there to be physical education classes in schools that happen everyday. This will give the kids the knowledge, skills, attitudes, behaviors, and confidence they need to lead a healthy life. Another part is to reduce the time spent watching T.V and other related things. It also says that physical activities should be built into the day. Adults should aim for at least 30 minutes of activity and children should aim at least 60 minutes. They should also be more activities for employees in businesses. The Surgeon General also calls for more public facilities for people, including the elderly, for physical activities. The plan also calls for promotion of healthier food, like having at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Another thing is to have reasonable food portions at home, at schools, in the community, and at worksites. There should also be healthy food at schools by enforcing existing U.S Department of Agriculture regulations, adopt policies that contribute to eating patterns, provide more food options, and reduce access to high fat and calorie foods.

Finally, the plan calls for more research and evaluation of obesity. It calls for the increase research on behavioral and environmental causes of obesity. It also calls for increasing research on prevention of obesity and to research the prevalence of obesity among gender, races, ethnic, and age group.
