Major League Soccer (MLS)

The MLS is the main soccer league in the United States. The MLS was formed on December 17th, 1993. U.S. soccer had promised FIFA a United States soccer association that was able to produce players and coaches for FIFA tournaments.  The MLS originally consisted of ten teams. The teams included:
Columbus Crew
D.C. United
Colorado Rapid
Metrostars
New England Revolution
Tampa Bay Munity
Dallas Burn
Kansas City Wizards
Los Angeles Galaxy
San Jose Clash
In 1998, the field was expanded to twelve teams. The Chicago Fire and the Miami Fusion were added. The Florida soccer teams were not a success however, and they were both taken out of the league. In 2004, the MLS expanded once again. A team from Salt Lake City was created, named the Real Salt Lake. C.D. Chivas USA was also added.
Teams now include:
Chicago Fire
Columbus Crew
DC United
Kansas City Wizards
Metrostars
New England Revolution
C.D. Chivas USA
Colorado Rapids
FC Dallas
Los Angeles Galaxy
Real Salt Lake
The MLS continues to be the dominating soccer association. It is a major reason why soccer is expanding so rapidly across the United States.

Football Association Premier League

England is one of the major soccer nations in the country, and it openly welcomed the association. The Football Association was founded in 1904. Over the years, it had become home to one of the most prestiged soccer associations in the world. However, by the '90's, England's soccer had become violent and it was banned by some other countries. In 1992, the Premier League was created, and soccer began to elevate in popularity once again.
There were twenty-two original teams, however, due to FIFA's attempts to lower the amount of games played, the number was reduced to twenty. English Premier continues to keep the best professional teams in the league by promoting the top two teams from other leagues. The two worst finishing teams are demoted at the end of the year, to make room for the upcoming teams.
English Premier is home to some of the most famous soccer clubs in the world. Teams such as Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and one of the most prestigious soccer clubs in the world, Manchester United. These teams have followers all around the world because they are known as some of the world's best teams. The Football Association Premier League is one of the main reasons that soccer has become what it is in England today and has influenced the world soccer in many different ways.
Serie A
Serie A. Even though it is not as familiar to most people as the FA Premier League, Serie A is the largest soccer league in Italy. The Serie A that is known today began in 1929. Before that, it had been organized into regional championships.  As of the 2004-2005 season, there were twenty teams. Each team plays each of the other teams twice. This means that each team plays thirty-eight games. Like the FA Premier League, the bottom three teams are demoted down. They are sent to a league called, Serie B, the class below Serie A. The top three teams from Serie B are promoted up to Serie A.
There are many worldwide known teams. These include Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Internazionale. These are all very important teams that have been in the league since it's creation. These teams compete to win the UEFA Cup.
