History

Skateboarding started in the 1940's and 50's when people in Southern California wanted to "surf on land".  Nobody knows  who made the first board, but people are sure it started in California. The first boards were wood with roller skate wheels mounted to the bottom. In the 1960's tournaments started to pop up and skate parks were thriving. Then, suddenly the sport came to a halt.

It was not until the summer of 1975 did the sport come back. When the sport came back, it came back with some of the most famous groups and individual skaters ever. That is the time of the legendary bones brigade started to thrive to day they are noted as the best group of skaters ever. That is also the time of some of the best skaters that are still heard today. One of the most notable is Tony Hawk.

Now skate boarding is completely evolved with revolutionary equipment. In a poll taken last year, almost 85% of skaters are under 18 and 78% are males. Skating has a generally bad reputation due to the old days when people were not allowed to skate in public places. But, as the years pass and the sport progresses, people have grown to like the sport and live with it more openly. It is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States and does not seem to be leaving anytime soon. This is a sport that has a very bright future.
