Bowling History

Bowling is a genuine sport that may be one of the oldest known sports in the world.  Nearly over 100 million people in more than 90 countries play the game, which makes it one of the most popular ways of recreation.  The game has been dedicated to the kings and some of the facts are even more surprising than some of the most dedicated kingpins.

In the 1930s Sir Flinders Petrie, a British Anthropologist was the first to discover evidence of the game of bowling.  He discovered ancient object in a children's grave in Egypt that were used for a primitive form of the game.  They dated back to 3200 BC, which makes bowling over 5,000 years old.  William Pehle has said that the game had originated in his country in 300 AD.  it has settled into the modern lanes that we all know and love today.

The first mention of a written bowling type sport is traced back to the year 1366 in England.  King Edward the third allegedly outlawed the game in order to keep all of his troops focused on archery practice but it was a fugue during king Henry the eighth. Variations of bowling have come from Europe, the French, and even Britain's lawn bowling.  Nobody really knows who introduced bowling to the United States.

English, Dutch, and German settlers all brought New versions of the game to the New World.  The earliest mention of bowling was from the quote of Rip Van Winkle.  When he woke up he heard the sounds of ninepins.  The origin of the ten pin game is still unknown.  By the late 1800s it was prevalent in three states.  The first standardized rules of bowling was established on September 9, 1895.  The American Bowling Congress came later in the year 1917 under Dennis Sweeny.  Women leaders participating in a tournament later formed the Women's National Bowling Association.

One of the first Mineralite balls was introduced in 1914 by the Brunswick Corporation and the first pin setting machine came in 1952.  Nothing helped improve the popularity of bowling than the first broadcast of "Championship Bowling" by NBC.  Thanks to that show and many others bowling thrust into the Americans public living rooms and hearts alike.  The pro bowlers tour began Sports Broadcasting after being first televised in in 1961.  all of these events added to the popularity of bowling.  Bowling is loved in its own way because it is a sport of people.  It has grown from its early form into a enjoyable American past time.
