 Michael Jordan

        Michael Jordan redefined basketball. Nobody has accomplished as much as Michael did in the amount of time he played. His full name is Michael Jeffrey Jordan. He had many nicknames like MJ and air Jordan.  As a kid he had nicknames like Magic, Big Ears, and Tricky.  He was born February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn NY.  He went to Laney High school and attended the University of North Carolina.  In his first year at North Carolina he became a starter.  At first he did not make the high school varsity team in his sophomore year he was very disappointed.  "I started working harder the next day after I was cut"  said Michael.  When Michael Jordan entered the NBA he played for the Chicago Bulls.  He led Chicago to 6 national championships.  He retired after that and played Minor League Baseball.  He came back to the NBA and played for the Washington Wizards.  He is known as the best player in NBA history ever to play.  His stats were stunning! 

 

Wilt Chamberlain

        Wilt Chamberlain was born in Philadelphia PA on August 21, 1936.  He was 7 foot 1 inch when he was fully grown.  He went to the University of Kansas from 1955 to 1958.  He led Kansas to big seven championships in 1957 and 1958.  At one time he played for the Harlem Globetrotters. He was rookie of the year during his first season in the NBA.  He won MVP four times in 1960, 1966, 1967, 1968.  In 1972 he was the MVP of the NBA finals.  He led the league in rebounds 11 years.  At one time he scored a whopping total of 108 points in a single game.  He died on October 12 , 1999. 

 

Spud Webb

           Anthony or Spud Webb was an NBA superstar for 12 outstanding seasons.  He was born July, 13 1963, in Dallas Texas.  He attended Wilmer-Hutchins high school in Dallas Texas.  He went to North Carolina State University.  Spud was a five foot seven inches tall all-star with a 42 inch vertical jump.  He electrified crowds with his skill and competitive game.  Spud won the 1968 slam dunk contest.  He was the shortest person ever to win the competition.  He would take people to school that were over a whole foot taller than he was.  Spud said that "No one expected or imagined that a person of my size could win a slam dunk contest or even make it into the NBA.  I will never let my size keep me from excelling in a sport."

 

Larry Bird

Larry Bird was born on December 7th, 1956 in West Baden, Indiana.  he went to Springs Valley High School from 1970- 74.  At the college of Indiana University he set 30 Indiana records.  Larry was awarded with The NBA's Rookie of the Year Award in 1980.  He was a twelve time all-star and the leagues MVP of the 1982 All-Star game.  Larry was inducted in to the NBA Hall of Fame in 1998.  In 1997 he was appointed Coach of the Indiana Pacers.  He won the NBA coach of the year award his first year as a coach.  He led them to an NBA championship series in 2000, but lost to the Lakers in  six games.  After that season he retired.  Larry was named the President of the Indiana Pacers association.  

 

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

Kareem was born April 16, 1947 in Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor in New York City.  Kareem attended the college of UCLA.  He was a NBA center that grew to be a whopping seven foot three inch man.  He played a total of 1,560 games.  The second highest ever.  He had the most blocks ever and the most points ever with 3,189 blocks and 38,387 points.  Kareem played on NBA championship teams in 1971, 1980, 1982, 1985, 1987, and 1988.  he won the NBA MVP award in 1971, 1972, 1974, 1976, 1977, and 1980.  that was the NBA record for the most MVP awards.  He was the MVP of the NBA Finals in 1971 and 1985.  He was the Sportsman of the year in 1985 sponsored by Sports Illustrated.  Kareem also featured in many TV shows and movies.
