Baseball Rules MLB (Major League Baseball) Rules Baseball is a game between two teams with nine players on each team. Each team has a manager. Baseball is played on an enclosed field called a stadium. The goal for each team is to score more runs than the opposing team. A run is when a player crosses the plate after running around all four bases without getting out. Another way a player can score a run is by hitting it over the fence. It is also called a home run. An out is when the opposite team either tags you out or gets you out on a force out. A force out is when you have to run to a base and the ball beats you to the base. Other kinds of outs are fly outs which are where the player hits the ball into the air and the other team catches it. A strike out is when the pitcher throws the ball in the strike zone three times without the batter hitting it. The player gets called out. If the pitcher throws four balls it is a walk and the player is awarded to go to first base. Players can hit a single, where they got to first base. A double, where they get to second base. A triple is when a player hits the ball and he gets to third base. If a batter gets hit by a pitch they get to go to first base without the chance of the other team getting him out. There are nine positions for players to play. The catcher catches the pitches from the pitcher. The pitcher is the one who throws the ball to the batter. A first base man is the player who plays first and gets the ball on ground balls to get the batter out. The second base man plays to the right of second base. The short stop plays to the left of second base or the gap between third and second base. The third base man plays on third base. There are three outfielders, right, left and center. They catch fly balls and cut of hits. After three outs for one team the other team gets to bat. A team can get a single out, a double play when you get two players out at once, or a triple play which gets three players out at once. Breaks or Timeouts A team gets breaks when they are switching from the field or from batting. A team with a player that argues with the umpire for a bad call the player can get ejected. When both teams leave the dugouts because two players were fighting, both of the teams could start fighting. The umpires can then eject many players. In the middle of the seventh inning the fans sing along to the seventh inning stretch song, "Take Me Out To The Ball Game." The teams playing can not call timeouts like in other sports. The players dress in uniforms with hats and cleats. the cleats can't have metal spikes on the bottom of them.
