Rules of the NBA

The period lengths are 12
minutes, there are four quarters.
If there is a tie at the end
of the fourth quarter they will go into overtime which is five minutes
long.
The time between quarters is 130 second or two minutes 10
seconds.
The length of halftime is 15 minutes.
The length of a
full court is 94 feet by 50 feet.
The size of the lane is 16
feet by 19 feet.
The three point line is 23
feet and 9 inches away from the hoop.
It is 22 feet away in the
corner.
The shot clock is the time a team has to shoot the ball,
it is 24 seconds in the NBA.
A shot clock is reset after a field
goal attempt hits the rim.
A field goal is the same thing as a
shot.
The back court violation is eight seconds.
If you do
not bring the ball past half court in the eight seconds they give you
it is a back court violation.
The game clock stops after a
successful field goal in the last two minutes of the fourth
quarter.
The limited number of fouls a player can commit in a
single game is six personal fouls.
If a player gets fouled while
shooting he is awarded with two free throws.
A bonus free throw is when
the other team goes over the foul limit, you get to shoot an extra
free throw.
The maximum number of players a team can have on the free
throw lane is five. Three offensive and two defensive.
A jump
ball occurs
when two players from different teams are both holding on to the
ball.
Goaltending is when a player shoots the ball and the
player from the opposing team as it is in a downward motion.
The
number of referees on the floor is three.
A personal foul is one
player either fouls another player while he is shooting, dribbling,
passing, receiving a pass, or just moving around trying to get open.
A
Technical foul occurs when a player either talks back to a referee or
brags to much during the game.
After a player commits a technical
foul the other team gets to shoot one extra free throw.
After
the shot the team gets the ball back whether he made it or not.
Timeouts-Game. A
team gets three full timeouts per half. They also get one 20
second time out. During overtime they get an additional three
full timeouts. The coaches and the players can call
timeouts. The referees can call timeouts when there is a problem
with the clock or there is something wrong elsewhere. The size
of an official ball is 29 1/2 inches to 29 3/4 inches. The across
channels are 29 5/8 to 29 7/8. The legal jersey numbers are all the
numbers from 00-99

WNBA does not have four quarters they have two twenty minute halves.
If there is a tie at the end of the second half they will go
into five minute over time. The length of half time is 15
minutes. The length of the court is 94 feet by 50 feet.
The size of the lane or key is 12 feet by 19 feet. The the three
point distance is 19 feet and 9 inches. Shot clock violations
occur when the team with the ball does not get a shot off that hits
the rim in 30 seconds. Shot clocks in the WNBA are reset after a team
either makes the basket or hits the rim with there shot. The
players in the WNBA have ten seconds to advance the ball past half
court. If they do not do so it is a backcourt violation.
The game clock stops after a successful field goal in the last minute
of the first and second half, it also stops in overtime. The
foul limit in the WNBA is also six. A bonus free throw occurs
on the eight foul of that half (two free throws) or on the third
technical foul. The number of players allowed on the free throw
line is five (three offensive and two defensive). Overtime permits
one one 20 second timeout and one unused 20 second timeout left over
from the second half. The number of referees that ref a game are
three. The size of an official WNBA basketball is 29
inches in circumference. The legal jersey numbers are 00 through
