Heroes of History
Throughout history, there have been certain people who stand out from their contemporaries. The stories of these people have passed on through time, from present, to story, to history, to myth, to legend. These people stood out due to their actions, not being limited by conventional human limits. In myth and legend, these people stand out as heroes, as people who defied the limits set on them, and overcame various challenges in order to change the world forever.
Some of these heroes may have existed as normal beings who overcame challenges set on them by society or nature. However, eventually these normal human beings and their stories became greater than they really were, and the stories became distorted from reality. These changes have lasted for centuries and have made these people legends.
Other heroes are based on the hopes and dreams of their creators. In times of turmoil, these creations sparked the imaginations of ordinary people. These sparks of hope were greater than anything these heroes were claimed to have done. These dreams of a better life changed the society, and the lives of normal people would never be the same.
Heroes are shaped by society, and in turn, change the society in which they exist. The change is most obvious in the contemporary culture in which the hero exists, but the legend that the hero still affects us today. While their effects may not be obvious, we constantly think of them, and compare our lives to theirs.
