Ocean Facts

·      There are four oceans. They are the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, and Indian oceans.

·      They are connected by other bodies of water to form the World Ocean.

·      Some countries also recognize the Southern Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea as oceans.

·      Some people consider the Arctic Ocean part of the Atlantic Ocean.

·      Small connecting parts of oceans are called seas, gulfs, or straits.

·      The ocean’s average depth is 3790 meters.

·      There were three other ancient oceans.

·      The first ancient ocean was Panthalassa; it was around Pangaea the super continent.

·      The second ancient ocean was the Tethys and the third was the Iapetus Ocean.

·      There are some oceans in space.

·      The ocean contains many of Earth’s life forms.
