Treatment of Children:

As Charles own childhood was not what we can call a really great one, most of his books are based on children. His books give us a really realistic view of approach of our society towards meek ones.

His book, Oliver Twist, which he wrote from 1837 to 1839, is fully about how a homeless orphan spends the golden period of his life endeavoring human rascality. Human nature can be more evil than ever imagined of when it comes to material benefits and money. We always disregard anyone who is not able to give us any profit. Small children are always felt as a burden, especially the ones who eat off the plate without paying. People always consider it as their goodness not duty to feed the young ones.

In the book Oliver Twist, Oliver is piled with hard work, a daily whipping, starving tummy, revolting rags to wear and all the unbearable luxuries of life along with other orphans. The woman who keeps them is paid by the state but pity on pity that the selfish brute keeps the money to herself and lets the poor kids starve. A stone of  heart she has, and a stone of heart we have because this sort of cheating is common in our society. Money makes us blind and it is the main source of disrest of today's race. We let tender hearts break for the sake of some coins. The same thing happens in the orphan house; from where Oliver is expelled on behalf of asking for more food. He is titled with offending names and is regarded as being extremely ungrateful. No one cared about the diet of the children just as a small bowl of gruel.

Even our own relatives are selfish and miserly when it comes to money. In ''Great Expectations'' it is shown how Pip is treated by his sister after the death of his parents. Her bitingly frosty attitude towards him and the constant reminder that she had raised him up by hand when no one was ready to, never ceased. Other people never hesitate to help Mrs. Joe in abusing pip and telling him how ungrateful he was. Only Mr. Joe supports him whose voice is suppressed.

How we love our nephews and nieces, how we cuddle them, treat them to treaties and make fuss of them, just because their parents are alive and can pay us back but then suddenly our attitudes change. Why?? Because now the same kids are orphans with no care takers and money to their rights. Lets now vow that  we would love children and treat them friendlily for the sake of their tender lives not for the sake of few coins........

"The children of the very poor are not brought up butt dragged up." (Bleak House)
