Every major group of organism you may have ever heard of has at least one or two of their own species making these coral reefs their home. Unfortunately, all of these creatures and the coral reefs themselves, which have been in existence for over 50 million years, are in danger as you read this. The coral reefs are getting sick; they are constantly threatened and are quickly disappearing from the map all over the globe. Did you know that just in the last four decades over 35 million acres of coral reefs have been destroyed without a trace? Reefs off the coasts of 93 countries have been damaged. If we do not take care of the coral reefs, our most fragile and endangered ecosystem will quickly disappear worldwide.
