Importance of Coral Reefs » Carbon Control

Corals are very important in controlling how much carbon dioxide is in the ocean water. When the coral polyp turns carbon dioxide in the water into a limestone shell it controls the level of carbon dioxide in the ocean water. Without coral, the amount of carbon dioxide in the water would keep rising and this will affect not only the life in the ocean, but on Earth as well.
