A long time ago, there lived a farmer and a wife. They were blessed with a beautiful baby girl. The parents adored the baby so much and pampered her all the time. The parents gave her too much attention and praised her all the time.

This beautiful girl grew up to be a beautiful maiden. The girl was very proud and knew she was the most beautiful girl in the village. She will go to the clear streams to admire her beauty.

One day, when she was admiring herself in the clear water, the king of crabs approached her and said that he would like to be her friend. The girl was vain and told him that she found him ugly and would never want to be friends with anyone who looked that horrible. This made the king of crabs really mad. He jumped on the girl and made painful scratches all over her face and body. The girl was worried about her beauty and tried to splash some clear water on the scratches to clean the wounds. To her horror, these scratches hardened into scales when they touched water. The girl started screaming at the crab and he got angrier. He cast a spell on her and transformed her into a fish filled with scales.

Now and then, you may have seen a scaly fish in a clear stream swimming and moving in a strange manner for no apparent reason. They swim in one direction and quickly turn around. The people believe that these fish do this because when they see their own reflection in the clear streams it reminds them of their “beauty” that they lost long ago.
