| Destruction » Cyanide Fishing |
-
Description: Cyanide fishing is when fishers use poisons such as cyanide to poison and capture reef fish. Not only do they poison the fish, but they also poison all the other animals that live in the reef, like polyps for example. Cyanide is used to stun and disorient the fish.
-
Reasons why people do it: Cyanide is used for fishing because it is a cheap and fast way to fish, but it has a very bad effect on the coral reefs.
-
Effect: The cyanide poisons all the animals that live in the coral reefs, and the fishermen are getting rid of all the fish which also leads to over fishing.
-
Solution: If people knew more about cyanide fishing, then maybe they would start to care a little bit about how the fishermen are using it, and try to stop it. So maybe the solution could be education.
