Louise Nevelson - Famous Women Sculpturess

Louise Nevelson was born on September 23, 1899, in Kiev, Russia. Since Louise’s father was a contractor, he moved to the United States in 1902 in order to get work. Her family missed him so much that they saved the money he sent to them, and they came to America in 1904. When they reached America, they settled in Rockland, Maine. While Louise was growing up, she always knew she wanted to be an artist.

In 1918, she married a man named Charles Nevelson who was from New York. In 1922, she gave birth to her only son, named Myron, who later became a famous artist himself. Louise's husband had a drinking problem, so she left him and moved to Munich, Germany, to live closer to her parents.
Her first public sculpture was in 1933. In 1967, she had a woman’s show at the Whitney Museum. This was a great accomplishment. Now Louise Nevelson has exhibits all over Europe of her great artwork. Louise Nevelson died on April 17, 1988, in New York, USA.
