Emily Greene Balch was born on January 8, 1867, in Massachusetts, into a wealthy family. Balch's father was a very successful lawyer. She went to Bryn Mawr College and graduated with the first graduating class. In 1896, she was a professor at Wellesley College and taught economics along with sociology. |

| Balch later co-founded the Women's International League, with Jane Addams. She opposed World War I and voiced her opinions openly. Because she did not go with the rest of the staff and keep her opinions to herself, she lost her job at Wellesley College. She later won the Nobel Peace Prize because of her strong actions against the war. |

Emily Greene Balch fought her way to greatness with these strong actions. Even though there were consequences, she fought for what she believed in. Emily Greene Balch died on January 9, 1961. |
