Jane Addams was a very community-involved woman who believed everyone was created equal. She was the first American woman to win a Nobel Peace Prize. She founded the Settlement House Movement in 1889. Jane made it her life's work to try to provide equal rights for everyone.
Jane belonged to many societies to which she dedicated most of her life and energy. She was the Founder of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). She was the 1st vice president of the National American Women Suffrage Association. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She was the founder of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Jane also founded a society that opposed World War I because she was against the war. Jane was rewarded for all her hard work in 1931 when she won the Nobel Peace Prize.
