Martina Navratilova was born on October 18, 1956, in Prague Czechoslovakia. Little did the world know then, but she would become one of the best players ever in women’s tennis. She started tennis lessons when she was only six years old and would win the Czechoslovakian Women’s title only a decade later. |

Amazingly, this was only the beginning of Navratilova’s tennis career. She would go on to win nine Wimbledon women’s singles tennis titles - a record that has yet to be broken. This outstanding woman would stand out as the most successful female tennis player for many, many years, winning no less than 167 tournaments total. Today she has retired but will still play occasionally in doubles' tournaments. |

Martina is still known today for her aggression, powerful serve, and volley style. She says that Billy Jean King, one of the first great woman tennis players, has always been her role model. Billy is known as the first woman to challenge the male tennis players, but it can be presumed that she also has become the role model for millions, and will always be a legend of the tennis court. |
