Jane Goodall endured many hardships during her lifetime . Her parents were divorced when she was only a small child. She and her mother continued living with grandmother in Bournemouth, a little seaside town in England. Even in the quiet town where the Goodalls resided, Jane could still hear the bombs of World War II and see the numerous tanks on the road near their home and the and planes soaring high in the skies. Then, at age eleven, she saw photographs of the German Holocaust that made a lasting, lifelong impression on her. At age 23 Mrs. Goodall had saved enough to go by ship to visit a friend who had moved to Kenya. Jane's lifelong dream was beginning to come true. When the ship finally arrived in Cape Town of Africa, she was struck by apartheid and was suddenly reminded of the horrible scenes of the war in Germany and of the Nazis. |

| While in Kenya she was hired to be Louis Leaky’s, a famous zoologist secretary. As Mr. Leaky got to know Jane he decided to select her to do a study of chimps, and he obtained the money needed to complete the project. Since, it was considered improper for Jane to go into the wild all by herself, her mother accompanied her to Tanlganyika, later known as Tanzania. There they would have to face the elements with only the shelter of a tent with a straw roof. There was always the fear that wild animals might cause problems if one happened to wander into the camp. During their four month stay in the jungles, Dr. Goodall and her mother became deathly ill with malaria. They had no medicine to comfort them or to ease their pain so they depended solely on each other during their sickness. Thankfully, both mother and daughter survived. |

She married twice and even had a child with her first husband, but that marriage ended with a divorce. Her second marriage ended when her husband died of cancer. Although, her life was almost in contast turmoil when looked at under some conditions, there was also many good times. She has know devoted herself to helping preserve the world’s natural wonders |
