Katie Couric, a widely known media personality, was born on January 7, 1957, in Arlington, Virginia. Katie Couric graduated from the University of Virginia in 1979. In 1989, she married Jay Monahan but sadly in 1998, he died of colon cancer. |

She started working for NBC News in 1989, but was fired because the president of the network did not like her voice. Still determined to succeed, she took voice classes. She became a desk assistant for ABC News. In 1980, she went on to work for CNN News. She became the producer of a two hour news show broadcasted from Atlanta, Georgia. Afterwards she moved on to being a news reporter in cities like Washington, D.C. and Miami, Florida, where she worked for NBC news and started on The Today Show. |

Her first daughter, Elinor Tully Monahan, was born in 1991. Katie made regular contributions to Dateline NBC. She had several specials including: Harry Potter: behind the Magic (2001), Legend to Legend: a Celebrity Cavalgate (1993), and Everybody’s Business: America’s Children (1995). In 1996, she had her second child, Coraline.
She has interviewed many prominent people in society including: George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Barbara Bush, Bill Clinton, The crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Hillary Clinton, and John F. Kennedy Jr.
