People who suffer from bulimia nervosa consume excess amounts of food and then purge themselves of it by vomiting, using laxatives abusively, and obsessively exercising. Some get so depressed, they even attempt suicide.
Bulimics usually have a fear of being fat or overweight and have low self-esteem. Most people who suffer from bulimia may appear normal or slightly overweight. This is one reason why it is not easy to tell if a person has bulimia. Bulimia can be treated with help, but ten percent of people diagnosed with bulimia die as a result.
