Coping With Divorce

There are many people you can go to for help with a divorce problem: a relative, a minister, a teacher, or a friend. Also, there are many resources available that might help you. Here is some advice from the book Divorce and Teens and from the web sites listed at the bottom.

Divorced Parents

Bottom line, you do not have to choose which parent to love. You can still love both of your parents. There are over nineteen million children living with one parent in the United States. Friends are a wonderful source of support to a teen experiencing divorce. Your friends will understand parent issue. If you need to talk to an adult about your feelings, you can always talk to your school guidance counselor.

If your parents are getting divorced, you might feel it is your fault. It is not! Do not blame yourself for your parent’s breakup. Parents break up for many reasons; they may feel like it is time for a change in their life or they may just not get along with each other.
