Skull and Bones
Symbol of Skull and Bones Kris Millegan
Skull and Bones has been rumored to have committed numerous crimes on many occasions. Some people believe Skull and Bones is a chapter of another German secret society from the 1800’s as well. Ex-members who have tried to uncover the society have often mentioned many German pictures and other German items in the fraternity, such as the china set rumored to have belonged to Hitler. One fact that supports this theory is that co-founder of the Order, William Huntington Russell, spent a long time in Germany. It has been suggested that while he was in Germany, he was initiated into a secret society there. Some have stated that the “so called brotherhood” that he was initiated into was a continuation of the Illuminati. Official material from Skull and Bones supports this theory. One example supporting the theory was the description on an invitation for the fraternity’s thirteenth anniversary party: “A Jubilee Commemoration of the History of Our Establishment in New Haven.” Another piece of information that supports this theory is a 1933 Skull and Bones document that refers to the “birth of our Yale chapter.” Kris Millegan, author of the book Fleshing Out Skull & Bones, believes that according to information from an infiltration to the fraternity in 1876, “Bones is a chapter of a corps in a German University…General Russell, its founder, was in Germany before his senior year and formed a warm friendship with a leading member of a German society. He brought back with him to college the authority to found a chapter here.” These are just a few of the reasons why some believe Skull and Bones is an American chapter influenced by a German society and that Russell was in a continuation of the Illuminati while in Germany.
