Illuminati
In 1779, Augustin de Barful published a book giving the Illuminati credit for starting the French Revolution. Later, a British author, Nesta Webster, wrote a book (World Revolution, a Plot Against Civilization, 1921) that gave the brotherhood credit for every major revolution since the French Revolution. Many conspiracy theorists believe that the Illuminati are still a living threat, whereas some believe that the society did not exist into the 20th century. In 1965, Reverend Gerald L.K. Smith wrote that the Illuminati were the second biggest threat in the world. Robert Welch gave the group credit for running history until the Vietnam War. Myron C. Fagan has claimed that a banking family known as the Rothschilds took control of the Illuminati after Weishaupt fled, and also that the group controlled the U.S. Foreign Policy by controlling the Council of Foreign Relations.

The "All Seeing Eye" on a dollar bill

An Illuminati symbol that still exists today is the All Seeing Eye; found on all U.S. dollar bills. Some believe it to be sign that the Illuminati used to be very influential in the U.S. government. More claims stated that the U.S. “founding fathers” were corrupted by Illuminati influence. America’s third President, Thomas Jefferson, was quoted as saying, “They intended to spread information and principles of true morality.” Still more conspiracy theories include that the “Skull and Bones Society”, was an American branch of the Illuminati.

Whatever the conspiracies are, the Illuminati remain one of the most secretive brotherhoods in history. Who knows if they are still out there today.
