The Illuminati was founded on May 1, 1776, by Adam Weishaupt, a former Mason. All Illuminati members had code names, and many did not know eack others true names. Wieshaupt was known as “Spartacus.” Only the highest level of members knew their leaders' true names and the brotherhood’s true intentions.

The Illuminati’s intentions were not clear; however, Robert Gillette was quoted as saying that the Illuminati ultimately intended to “establish a world government through assassination, bribery, control of banks and other financial powers, the infiltration of governments, and by causing wars and revolutions to move their own people into positions in the political hierarchy.” Winston Churchill was once quoted as saying that, if British spies could have infiltrated Nazi Germany as well as the Illuminati had once infiltrated British Parliment, the war would have been over in a year. They were one of the most secretive and mysterious brotherhoods of all times.
