• Do Jews call their
scriptures the “Old Testament” as many Christians
do?
The Christian term above is simply the
Christian way of describing the relationship of Hebrew texts to
Christian or Greek. Many Jews use this term, but some still refer
to them as an acknowledgement of common usage. However, for Jews,
Tanakh is the only and main testament.
• Have artifacts ever been
important to Jews?
In popular Jewish practice, objects of
antiquity have rarely been used. However, they are used when there
are burials of the human body. Ancient locations of where temples
once stood mark the burial grounds of many important Jewish
patriarchs.
• What is minyan?
In Jewish worship, where women are
excluded, there must be a minimum amount (quota) of people
attending once everyone worshiping has gathered. Counted toward the
minimum are ten people fourteen years of age and up. Recently,
however, votes have been taken to allow women into the count. If
the quota is not met, people return home or go to a synagogue to
pray privately.
