Jewish Religious Books: Workshop 11J

An Exerpt from The Torah
In the Hebrew Bible there are three sections. The entire Bible is known as the Tanakh. One of the most well known sections is the Torah. The other two books are the Neviim and the Ketuvim. In the Hebrew Bible, the letters in each of the three parts make up the name, Tanakh. T for Torah, N for Neviim, and K for Ketuvim. In the Torah there are 613 commandments around which the life of Jews is based.
The Torah
The Torah is wrapped in an embroidered mantle. There are two lions on the side representing the tribes of Judah. There is a crown in the middle of the mantle representing the crowning of the glory of Jewish life. On the top-left and right corners are the words "Crown of the Torah" in Hebrew. On the bottom there are two handles that are used to open and raise the Torah.
The book of Nevi’im is referred as the book of prophets. It is in two parts: The Former Prophets and The Latter Prophets. These two types include many prophetic speeches. Many sections of this book include the prophesizing of God coming to the earth and living in peace forever. The third part is known as the Ketuvim. This part is known as the writings. It contains vast writings about types of text from the past, to the poetry of Psalms, and the wisdom of Proverbs. The book Psalms is used very regularly in the synagogue. Other books in the Ketuvim are use in festival days.
